Becoming one of the most popular cosmetic treatments, dental veneers can completely reshape your smile in as few as two appointments. A more conservative option than a full crown, veneers are an ideal solution to close gaps, straighten crooked teeth, repair chips and cover permanent stains.
Precisely shaped from fine pieces of ceramic in a dental laboratory, dental veneers, when bonded to the surface of your front teeth, become strong and durable. When fitting a crown the entire tooth needs to be reshaped however, with a veneer, only minimal tooth enamel is required to be removed so when secured they appear the same size as the adjacent natural teeth.
The most important aspect of your treatment is your initial consultation. This is when we will discuss the result you desire, examine the health of your teeth and gums and if you are also wanting to achieve a lighter colour shade.
As with all dental procedures, careful preparation is the key to success. The teeth receiving veneers are prepared. If you have sensitive teeth, a local anaesthetic may be administered for your complete comfort.
Once prepared, an impression mould of your teeth is made and used as a template by our dental laboratory where your porcelain veneers are crafted, ensuring an exact fit and perfect alignment with your gum-line, creating a natural looking smile. This will take between 2 - 3 weeks. Depending on your personal situation, temporary veneers may be placed while your permanent veneers are being made.
It may take a few weeks to become familiar with the feel of your new smile. You may be required to attend a follow-up appointment several weeks after receiving your veneers to check the end result.
Once your veneers are bonded, you will enjoy the benefits of a strong, good looking and durable result.
A regular oral hygiene routine is just as important for the longevity of your new veneers as it is for your natural teeth. Although veneers are porcelain, they are bonded to your natural teeth, which are still susceptible to decay and gum disease. Brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing once a day, in addition to regular appointments with our dental hygienist, will keep your new smile looking beautiful for many years.
